Between the heat and me dancing since I walked into Margaritaville, my shirt was soaking wet and stuck to me as if it was spandex instead of cotton material. Had I not already been wet, I wouldn’t have agreed to head down to the boat entrance for what I guessed was like the after hour for the bar. The bar was located on the top of a hill and right behind is the beach we were entering. Some had on their swimwear, others didn’t mind being near the water or on the beach in regular attire. I’m real picky about my club clothing, so I was thankful I wasn’t dressed too fancy.

“So, the boat comes with a cost if we choose to enter, and the drinks are included, but if we just kick it on the beach, it’s free. No liquor is provided, and we would have to find somewhere to get a bottle and come back since it’s BYOB style,” Ceyna explained.

“I’m ok with going to the boat, that’s easier than us going to find a liquor store. It’s not like we have our own car or are from around here to know where to walk and get some,” I honestly replied, not wanting to walk around Jamaica and it was pitch-black outside. There were too many people on the streets walking around freely for me to feel comfortable knowing I was just a tourist. I grew up in the hood, but that was a hood in America, Ohio at that. Nothing like the hoods here.

“Looks like we getting on the boat then,” India slurred. She had already been throwing those margaritas back. I didn’t know how much liquor her little body was going to hold be for she passed out somewhere.

The boats weren’t very big, but there were several of them taking turns picking up a few passengers and then taking a few laps around the ocean before returning to get another group of passengers. When we lined up, I notice a group of guys staring in our direction. From the looks of it, they could have been natives, but there was no telling because their attire didn’t look like the other middle-class Jamaicans we’d seen all night. I know money when I saw money, and they looked like money.

Once boarding the boat, I realized it was a lot bigger than it appeared to be when viewing it from land. There was a small lower area which had space for several seating and a bar. The deck part in which we entered was divided into three parts. The front where the driver and his one or two guest would sit, a small bar area and a medium size area to stand and look out into the sea. The upper areas only had two small benches, and the rest was for standing. The three of us all headed to the lower area bar; my guess is we all needed to ease our nerves some. Being on a boat in the middle of the night, in the middle of the ocean could be a little scary.
